Medication management is an important responsibility for caregivers in the IDD community. To ensure that caregivers are properly trained and equipped to handle this responsibility, SafeDose offers a fully online Medication Assistance Training Program, which concludes with an in-person sign-off by a clinician. This program is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing and backed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), ensuring caregivers meet the required standards of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The training provides 32 hours of detailed instruction, ensuring that caregivers meet industry standards. It is divided into 42 tasks and organized into five key duty areas. These tasks are validated by healthcare practitioners and designed to represent the essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes caregivers need for successful employment as medication assisting caregivers. This comprehensive program prepares caregivers to assist with proper medication administration effectively and safely.
Engaging and Hands-On Learning
SafeDose’s essential training is online, giving caregivers and facilities the flexibility to complete the program at their own pace from any location. It is built to engage and inform through a variety of formats:
- 28 Narrated Presentations: These engaging, visually rich presentations break down key concepts into easy-to-follow lessons, with a downloadable user guide.
- 23 Video Demonstrations: High-definition demonstrations of critical procedures, including current topics like proper PPE usage, allow caregivers to visually learn the steps necessary to perform their tasks correctly.
- Multiple Choice Quizzes: These comprehensive quizzes at the end of each section verify that caregivers understand the material before advancing.
- Real Time Reporting: Reporting in real time allows students and facility administrators to track progress and monitor performance throughout the program.
Upon completing the online portion, the training concludes with an in-person sign-off. Caregivers can choose to complete this at their own facility or a nearby location, where a clinician observes them as they demonstrate the skills learned during the course. Once they successfully pass, they receive their certification.
